This season I started with a OAT group and a program called “Andes to Patagonia”.
My first group of the season and the first one with this company so many things to deal with… specially with a rusty tongue after several months of just spanglish and studies at the university, so until last minute I didn’t realize that I have the group.. the night before I packed everything and read some books… specialty “improvisation”
The first day I contact the bus company, “Buses Fernandez” to arrange the pick up time from the airport, everything was ok, at 10:30 pm I contact the P.D. ( Program Director) of the group. Excellent fella!!! He even have a blog as me. “Chilean Tourism Network”.
The first thing is take the travellers to the Hotel Cabo de Hornos, the front desk staff was very helpful on this. After that wi give an orientation walk to show places for lunch, exchange money & internet.
After lunch.. a delicious “Ave Palta” in Lomits (chicken breast with avocado on a stone-oven bread spread with home made mayonesa big as a dinner plate.), we get on the bus again to make a little city tour but actually is more like a hike around town showing differents options to do for themselves.
The next day there is a drive to Torres del Paine, I think that is a waste of time to stay in Punta Arenas that night. How is a early flight you have enough time to have lunch in Punta Arenas, do some sightseeing and the drive to Puerto Natales, much

Do you wander how to get to Torres del Paine, bypassing Punta Arenas?, well starting the 2nd of November of 2010 you can fly directly form Santiago, Chile (Maybe a stop-over in Puerto Montt) but still would save you at least a half day between the bus and others in Punta Arenas.
For booking you have to go to www.skyairline.cl I check it today but still Puerto Natales don’t show as a destination. I would look more closer to the day.
Meanwhile enjoy a picture from the bay of Puerto Natales
Happy trails!!

Hola Sergio!
The park was beautiful, especially with the changing fall colors that highlighted the mountains’ base in dusty hues. The glacier fed lakes had amazing blues and greens and turquoise colors that looked somewhat surreal, and the differing shades of light (morning/afternoon/evening) across the plains allowed for beautifully unique views of the same subject throughout the day. The mountains were of course incredible, with the whirling clouds, contrasting colors and chiseled contours. We spent the night in the park and got up early to catch a cold and rainy view of the sunrise; something we’ll never forget. The park is peaceful and unspoiled, a true gem and something I will hopefully return to in the future!
Thanks again for your help, and I love the blog, best advice/pictures on the park that’s out there! You doing a great service for TDP.
All the best,
Ezra
